They Have Arrived!

Dakota has updated the Google Map (located to the right of this message). Simply click the link that says "View Larger Map," wait for the map to load, and then click on the balloons.

If your computer runs Flash (most do), you can also experience the map within Google Earth. Follow these steps:

1. Download the Google Earth Software to your desktop (there are no viruses or anything to worry about) at http://earth.google.com/

2. Once downloaded, install the software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.

3. Once installed, simply come back here to the blog, click on "View Larger Map" and then click on "View in Google Earth" (top right of the screen). Here are some screen shots to help you:

Dakota's First Message!

We heard from Dakota Szabo tonight. There is internet connection in the hotel, but it is pretty slow. He is going to try to post pictures as soon as he can, so check back soon!

In the meantime, check out this video about Antarctica. Will our students have opportunities to see these same sights?

To Antarctica, right after the holiday

“The noise resembles the roar of heavy, distant surf. Standing on the stirring ice one can imagine it is disturbed by the breathing and tossing of a mighty giant below.” --Ernest Shackleton

In a flurry of preparations, the 90 students and 15 faculty members heading to Antarctica have purchased their muck boots, loaded up on layers of warm clothing, done their reading and are prepared to embark on the trip of their lives. Watch this space for journals, video clips and photos as the group travels to the place known as "On the Ice."
