There are those sad and misfortunate moments in life when people often step back and say, “How did I get to this place?”
The Antarctica Expedition provides a positive context for such a question. Over the last two days, we have sailed to see a gloriously radiant blue glacier and observed a colony of Magellanic Penguins.
I asked myself: “How did I get here . . . to the bottom of the world with 150 great people in such an untapped, pristine, and hopeful terrain?” The answer is easy – Hotchkiss! Through the success, sacrifice and dedication of its successful and generous alumni, like Mr. Mars, Hotchkiss uncannily perpetuated opportunity. I asked, “How did we get here?” My thoughts turn to what it must have been like in Mr. Mars’ days at Hotchkiss and his teachers who taught him and guided him. I thank them because their efforts surely instilled a sense of stewardship in people like Forrest Mars.
This is a precious gift that reflects the generational sense of loyalty and commitment of so many at Hotchkiss!
